Assassin’s Creed Mirage to Receive Free Story Expansion Set in AlUla
Ubisoft has revealed that Assassin’s Creed Mirage, the Baghdad-set installment released in 2023, will receive a free DLC later this year. The expansion will introduce a new story chapter, missions, and gameplay improvements while giving players the chance to explore AlUla, an ancient Arabian oasis city.

A New Journey in 9th Century AlUla
The expansion takes players to AlUla, a historic site in present-day Saudi Arabia renowned for its striking rock formations, ancient tombs, and rich cultural heritage. Ubisoft confirmed the DLC will be set in the 9th century, continuing Mirage’s focus on authentic, historically inspired locations.
AlUla provides a sharp contrast to Baghdad, the central setting of Mirage, and offers a fresh playground for Assassin’s Creed’s signature stealth and parkour systems. While story details remain under wraps, Ubisoft has confirmed that the update will feature a new narrative arc and quests centered on Basim Ibn Ishaq, the game’s protagonist.
This expansion marks the first major content update for Assassin’s Creed Mirage. Unlike many franchise add-ons that arrive as paid expansions, Ubisoft is releasing this DLC free of cost to all existing players—a move that is already generating excitement within the community.
What It Means for Assassin’s Creed Fans
When Assassin’s Creed Mirage launched on October 5, 2023, it was seen as a return to the series’ roots. Moving away from the expansive RPG formula of Odyssey and Valhalla, Mirage embraced smaller-scale environments and stealth-heavy gameplay reminiscent of the franchise’s early titles.
The AlUla expansion reinforces this approach, focusing on intimate, story-driven content rather than sprawling new regions. For fans who valued Mirage’s tighter scope and narrative-driven design, this DLC offers a meaningful way to revisit Basim’s journey.
Ubisoft is also preparing to roll out Assassin’s Creed Shadows: Claws of Awaji, a premium expansion launching on September 14, 2025. Unlike Mirage’s free chapter, this DLC will add over 10 hours of content, including a new map, bosses, weapons, and legendary gear. Both expansions—free and premium—highlight Ubisoft’s strategy of offering varied experiences to players across the Assassin’s Creed universe.
For Mirage players, however, the AlUla update stands out as a rare free offering. With its historically significant setting, fresh story arc, and gameplay enhancements, the DLC ensures that Basim’s tale continues to evolve while reinforcing Ubisoft’s commitment to Mirage as a key part of the franchise’s legacy.
