Elden Ring Live-Action Movie Announced with A24 and Director Alex Garland
The world of Elden Ring is officially heading to the big screen. A live-action adaptation of the acclaimed RPG is now in development, with Alex Garland — director of Ex Machina and Civil War — set to both write and direct the film.
The project is a collaboration between Bandai Namco, FromSoftware, and A24, known for bold storytelling and unique visuals. Garland’s involvement has sparked major excitement, especially coming off the success of Warfare, his recent war drama with A24, which has grossed over $32 million.
The film will be produced by Peter Rice, Andrew Macdonald, and Allon Reich from DNA, alongside George R.R. Martin (who co-created the game’s lore) and Vince Gerardis.
While plot and casting details are still under wraps, production is reportedly set to begin in 2026, after Garland wraps his current commitments. Fans are eager to see how he’ll translate the game’s haunting atmosphere, massive world-building, and cryptic storytelling to a cinematic format.

Originally launched in 2022 for Xbox, PlayStation, and PC, Elden Ring quickly became a landmark title, blending intense action with deep lore and unforgettable boss battles. A version for the Nintendo Switch 2 is expected later this year, and the spinoff title Nightreign is set to release on May 30, 2025.
The film’s announcement has energized both the gaming and movie communities, but expectations are high. With Garland at the helm and A24’s signature touch, fans are cautiously optimistic. Whether it lives up to the game’s legacy remains to be seen — but one thing’s clear: The Lands Between are coming to life.
